Alma Engineering is a NYC DOB approved Class 2 Special Inspection agency. In addition to Designing Residential and Commercial buildings, we provide Special Inspection and Progress Inspection services for active construction projects.

What is Special Inspection?

Special Inspections are conducted during the construction process to verify that work is being done in accordance to approved plans and specifications. Special Inspections must be performed by Special Inspectors on behalf of a Special Inspection Agency.

What is Progress Inspection?

Progress inspectors must verify that the construction, as it progresses, conforms to the approved construction drawings. Owners are required to retain registered design professional(s) to perform progress inspections.

What is the difference between a Progress Inspection and a Special Inspection?

Progress inspections are performed during the progress of work to verify substantial compliance with the Code and with approved construction documents.

On the other hand, Special Inspections are inspections of selected materials, equipment, installation, fabrication, erection, or placement of components and connections; these inspections confirm compliance with approved construction documents and referenced standards.

What is the Role of Special/Progress Inspection in construction project?

After successful completion of a construction project, the special inspector, hired by owner, will sign and submit TR-1 form to DOB, stating that all assigned inspection items have been done properly and are according to building code.

Where can I find the required Special/Progress inspection items, associated with my project?

Typically, on the first page of approved plans you can find this list. Otherwise, check Items Required section of Jobs/filling in DOB BIS system.
